The Thirukkural is the most ancient of the Tamil classics available today. ‘Thiru’ is ‘sacred’ and ‘kural’ means ‘a stanza, usually of less than two lines’. The work is named after its verse-pattern.
The Tamils have called the Thirukkural, the Tamil Veda. Thiruvalluvar, nearly 2000 years ago, while writing his Thirukkural, mentioned God only in 10 couplets, whereas in the remaining 1320, he taught man how to lead his everyday life. The product of the Thirukkural is to make an individual, 'a Complete Man'. The gospel of this religion allows a person of any religion to accept and follow its teachings without any conflict with the other creeds and its tenets.
The Thirukurral is also considered to be a complement to the Bhagavad Gita.
This particular volume is unique for it presents Tamil text, its Paraphrase, English Romanization and translation, all-in-one.
